Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire
A safe home for more than 800 donkeys
Since 1993, Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire has been dedicated to the well-being of the island's donkeys. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to shelter and care for sick, injured, and orphaned donkeys, while raising awareness about these special animals. We provide education to residents, schools, and visitors, and striving to structurally improve the well-being of all donkeys on Bonaire.

Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire
In 1993, Dutch Marina Melis and her husband Ed Koopman founded a shelter on Bonaire for sick, injured, and orphaned donkeys. This led to the founding of Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire – a safe haven where hundreds of donkeys receive loving care and protection.
We run the shelter with a small, dedicated team. Fortunately, we can count on the help of enthusiastic volunteers and the support of loyal donors and sponsors, who make this work possible.
Hop in your car and take a leisurely drive through our park, surrounded by curious donkeys. In the care meadow, you can meet the animals up close, cuddle them, and have your picture taken with them. A unique experience for all ages; you're most welcome!

Drive your own car or scooter through our park and meet more than 800 curious donkeys in a safe, natural environment. In the care meadow, you can even give some of the donkeys a close-up cuddle. A special outing for all ages! After your visit, be sure to browse our giftshop. There you'll find fun souvenirs like stuffed animals, t-shirts, and postcards. All proceeds go directly towards the donkeys' care.

Tickets are available at the entrance and will go entirely to their care.

Then adopt one of our donkeys! You choose your favorite and receive an adoption certificate, photos, and updates. This way, you build a wonderful bond with the donkey, even from a distance, and contribute to their well-being in a lasting way.
