2nd of May 2010 – new orphaned foal is doing fine
The little foal that we gave shelter in our sanctuary at the 19th of April, after his mother died by a car hit, has been given a name. We called him Dion, after the artist who creates
wonderful donkey art for us to sell. Dion recovers well from his injuries and drinks his Pavo foal milk with relish. But he obviously still has al lot of grieve over the loss of his mum and needs to get used to the new situation he is in now. On the picture you see Line giving milk to Dion, who is already able to drink from a little bowl. Line visits Bonaire frequently and than comes over to the sanctuary to help us each day. Great that she spends so much of her precious leisure time to care for our donkeys. Thank you so much Line!

19th of May 2010 – jack dies after car hit
Around midday we received a phone call from the police. They told us that a donkey had been hit by a car at the Kaminda Gurubu, the road to Rincon. But they said it was not so

bad. Of course we immediately went over there to help the animal. It turned out to be horrible. A donkey jack was standing alongside the road holding his hind leg up. His hoof was completely ripped off his leg by the fierce hit and blood flowed out of the wound. Moreover the poor animal also suffered severe internal injuries. Despite all this, he was still standing upright, on three legs. We quickly led him into our trailer and brought him to the vet, who had no other option than to euthanize the poor thing. Considering the severe injuries of the donkey and the fact that he was hit in broad daylight, we assume the car must have been driving at high speed.
28th of May 2010 – foal born in our sanctuary
Last night by full moon, approximately between 4 and 5 am., jenny Maud gave birth to her foal. It is an adorable little boy and we will soon make up a good name for him. Marina knew that Maud was due to deliver her baby soon and therefore at 5.30 this morning she

was already in the field looking for Maud to see how she was doing. She found Maud all the way back in the field, together with her newborn son. We saved Maud from the streets on the 11th of September last year. She was walking around with a piece of steel-wire wrapped around her leg, that had cut into her flesh. She had deep, infected wounds. Nonetheless she was very fierce and did not let us catch her easily. It took a lot of time and sweat before we were able to get her and help her. She was already pregnant when
we saved her, for obviously in our sanctuary we do not have any reproduction of donkeys. By the way, we were very worried about Maud’s unborn foal. For two months ago several donkeys inside our santuary were poisened during the night. At that time we told you foal Eline even died from the poisoning. Also Maud was poisoned then and mortally ill. Thank goodness she survived and completely recovered. However what the poison had done to her unborn child we could not tell. But fortunately so far her foal seems to be healthy! He is still standing very wobbling on his fragile legs, but honestly follows his mum wherever she goes.
9th of June 2010 – generous gift by Van Doren Reclame
For years on end Van Doren Reclame in the Netherlands has been donating us unique souvenirs that we can sell in our little shop. They design and manufacture all these products
themselves and give them to us for free. So the selling price of these articles is 100% profit for the benefit of our donkeys! Mister Van Doren makes beautiful nature photographs on Bonaire, of which for example he prints posters for us. Today we received again as much as 100 of these wonderful posters! Besides we are allowed to use one of his great pictures to print on linen carrier bags, that we will sell in our shop as well. Van Doren Reclame thank you so much!
